No more sewing

Cleaning won over. I vacuumed my living room, bathroom, and kitchen.  Then got on my old knees and scrub the kitchen floor by hand. I don't do that very often, but wanted to get in the corners and along the baseboard better today.

I decided it was past time to get it good. So the washcloth and a bucket of cleaning water and it is much cleaner. I use to do that all the time, but not so much anymore.

Maybe this afternoon I can gt back into the sewing room and get some more cutting and sewing done. I do need to go to the grocery for a couple things.  Chris

Now there are 30

Oh my what happened here. It is a lot of trimming and cut offs that aren't big enough to use. I think I need to clean this up today. This is just since the weekend that this mess happened.

30 blocks complete. Working towards 42 and then lay them out to see where I stand. I think I need to keep motivated and try to get them done in the next couple days.

We are to get more rain and other than cleaning inside which isn't fun I have nothing else to do. I have been keeping up with the laundry so my time should be devoted to cleaning and sewing. Which do you think will win out? Chris

Now there are 25

Yesterday I started with 8 completed blocks. I think I sewed off and on for about 7 hours yesterday. As I would complete a block I would pull the pieces for another. Which sometimes meant I needed to cut a certain color to make it work.

I did a lot of cutting and cleaned up a lot of small pieces that way. Needless to say I should just cut for 7 hours and get more cleaned up. I don't think my shoulders would take it. I pulled a muscle a few weeks back picking up Autumn and it hasn't been right since.

I do need to lay these out and see what colors I need to add. I made a purple combo yesterday and a couple orange ones. I know I have no black or dark gray ones also. I think a couple brown combos need to be added.

Plenty of red and dark greens are already made. It is interesting because I'm adding pieces from other quilters to the mix and it makes it all look so different than the mixture I had before. Also have been adding pieces from the shirts I have purchased. Which reminds me the thrift store I frequent has 50% off weekend coming up at the end of the month. Great time to find good buys.

The thrift store is where I found a lot of quilting fabric also. They are good quality quilting fabric in pieces or strips someone donated. Quite a treasure of small prints for scrap quilting. Keep on sewing today I plan on it. Chris

I did accomplish something this morning

I took this shot out on the deck in the full sunlight. They are just laying there and I wanted to see from a distance how many more colors I need to look for to make some different combinations.
I think I finished about 5 more this morning and have a couple more in the construction process. This will no sashing so it will be all courthouse steps to finish the top to the outer edges. There are 15 blocks there so thinking on 30 and see how large that is. Want it to be couch sized. May have to be 42 to be long enough. They are 9.5 inch blocks when finished.

The sun is out, but possible thunderstorms after lunch. Nothing on TV so I will be sewing since I don't have a computerized machine and I can watch Netflix or put  DVD in  and watch it.

Laundry is going and more to do. Enjoy what is left of the weekend. Chris

On a mission

Well I hope to be. Wishful thinking. Let's put it this way I plan on trying to do some good in the next couple weeks. You ask so what is it? Well I plan on going on a fabric buying mission. I need fabric for sashing and backings and also neutrals.

I have plenty to piece with. I am tired of piles of blocks sitting here and nothing finished. I really need to try and get my rear in gear and get this mess cleaned up. I know I keep saying that and my plans get side railed, but with the roof expenses it was a couple tight months and no purchases were made.

I have three piles of blocks made that need a darker sashing fabric and I need some background fabric like 6 yards worth and I just put off that purchases. If I spend less than $20 for remnants or or fat quarters a month that is what I have been doing.

This morning I plan on making a list of colors and yardages for the three piles and when I get my check this month I plan on taking a trip to look. I have to drive about 45-60 miles to get to fabric or quilt shops. So I make it worth my while when going.

I will keep you posted when I get the mission completed. Chris

Went garage saling today

Grandpa wanted a cart behind his bike. So we went to a garage sale yesterday and they had closed. This morning I went back and got this for 50% off. So for $12.50. He hooked it up and she loves it.

She wasn't real sure at first, but now she wants to go all the time. 17 months old today and growing fast. Smarter than most at that age and wearing us out. Chris

Slow work

Someone asked me if the roof was that bad. Well here is a picture of the shingles that were on the roof of the garage. It was only an eleven year roof. But it was really bad, but didn't leak. All done now and worth the work.

This is a slow moving sewing job. I need a slow moving couple day to regroup. I have tons of strips cut out. I tweak the ones I use so cut one here and there for the color choices I have picked to do on the dark side of the block.

I think is really using a lot of stash on this project. Which is a good thing. Sometimes I see the fabric laying there and thing I should save this, but why. There will be more down the road.

Depending on which direction you look at these blocks makes it look different. Is it light or dark? I think this is going to be couch quilts, but with sons that are over 6 ft. tall it ends up more like an extra long twin quilts.

Hope this idea is a good stash buster for you. I'm sure I am not the only one that has come up with this block. Can't give credit to anyone on this block. But enjoy the process. Chris
